REHAU AGILA Passivhaus door

Passivhaus fenestration products specified for social housing project

  • 31 May 2016

A number of windows and doors from REHAU have been specified for installation in one of the UK’s first Passivhaus-certified social housing projects.

The development features six new two bedroom homes, which have been funded and built by Fareham Borough Council; the Home and Communities Agency provided assistance through its 2015-2018 Affordable Homes Programme.

By utilising Passivhaus products, the project aspires to demonstrate what can be achieved in the social and affordable housing sector in terms of sustainability.

REHAU’s Passivhaus GENEO windowsGRM Innovations was contracted to fabricate a number of REHAU GENEO tilt and turn windows and French doors for the pilot development in Sarisbury Green, Fareham. The products were specified by Kenn Scaddan Associates, along with REHAU’s new AGILA Passivhaus entrance door.

The installation was carried out by primary contractors, Interserve, starting with the AGILA Passivhaus entrance door. Supplied pre-glazed with a pre-fitted security hardware, the door was specified with GRP foil laminate panels in RAL7001 grey, to match the REHAU GENEO windows and French doors.

REHAU’s GENEO windows can achieve Uw values as low as 0.73W/m²K; they are manufactured using the company’s RAUFIPRO fibre composite material. Interserve previously installed the units on its regional office in Leicestershire, which became the UK’s first Zero Carbon office to achieve full Passivhaus certification.

The homes, which are now occupied, will be monitored for the next 12 months. Energy performance will be recorded to ensure the performance of REHAU’s Passivhaus fenestration systems.
