Showersave has sponsored and participated in a recent Building Insights LIVE roundtable on ‘Water & Energy Saving Innovations in New Build Housing’, focusing on energy-saving solutions to meet the Future Homes Standard and recent updates to Parts L and G of Building Regulations, aligned with the UK’s water and carbon-saving goals.
The 2021 amendments to Part L set stricter energy performance requirements for both new and existing buildings, with a mandate for new builds to be ‘zero carbon ready’ by 2050. As global water demand is projected to exceed supply by 40% by 2030 and with the UK committed to net-zero carbon by 2050, the roundtable explored solutions to help the UK meet these urgent targets.
In line with these requirements, Showersave’s Waste Water Heat Recovery System (WWHRS) has been recognised by the BRE in both SAP and SBEM as one of the most sustainable, cost-effective ways to achieve Part L compliance. Each Showersave unit recovers up to 60% of heat energy from wastewater, saving between 250kg and 1000kg of CO₂ annually, depending on usage.
With Part G expected to undergo significant updates to align with FHS, roundtable discussions focused on the steps housebuilders must take to balance cost, performance, and sustainability while meeting the evolving regulations.
Tony Gordon, Managing Director of Showersave, says: “The challenges the Future Homes Standard is likely to present will create a pivotal shift for housebuilders, bringing both challenges and opportunities. As the industry adapts to stricter energy performance requirements, notably the electrification of heat, our WWHRS offers a proven, energy-saving solution that not only meets Part L compliance but also helps future-proof new builds.
“With over 140,000 homes already benefiting from Showersave, we’re proud to contribute to the reduction of CO₂ emissions and energy consumption. Our system doesn’t just provide a cost-effective route to compliance; it also delivers long-term savings on household energy bills, making it an essential tool in the pursuit of sustainable, net-zero housing.”
