Tapered flat roof insulation used in school refurbishment project

  • 30 Mar 2015

The Billericay School has benefited from the installation of Eco-Bond, Eco-Fix and EcoTherm’s tapered flat roof insulation product, Taper-Bond

The project saw the refurbishment and extension of Block C, a three-storey building housing the school’s science laboratories and classrooms.

A new building was also designed to accommodate the school’s music blocks and modern languages department.

Single-ply build-ups

Products from EcoTherm Insulation were fitted on the buildings’ roofs using two different single-ply build-ups.

Like all of EcoTherm’s tapered PIR roof scheme solutions, the single-ply build-ups were designed and distributed by Building Innovation.

EcoTherm’s Eco-Bond and Taper-Bond were installed beneath a single-ply membrane for the Block C’s new roof extension.

The products were selected to help the roof meet the Building Regulations’ thermal requirements: it achieved a U-value of 0.18W/m²K, complying with the legislation.

Tapered flat roof insulation

Taper-Bond was selected to design a fall of 1:80: the tapered insulation product creates falls for drainage to prevent ponding as well as providing insulation.

Although easy to cut to size, EcoTherm’s tapered insulation roof schemes are also available with factory cut hips and valleys.

This simplifies the installation process by reducing fitting times and minimising the amount of on-site cutting and waste.

Insulating with Eco-Fix

Building Innovation’s tapered ASPIRE solution is a hybrid system consisting of several insulation materials, including Eco-Fix.

The system was used to insulate the music block’s new roof.

With Eco-Fix, the roof build-up was able to match the thermal performance of Block C.
