Vent-Axia’s Solution shortlisted at Unlock Net Zero Awards

  • 22 May 2023

Leading ventilation manufacturer Vent-Axia is delighted to announce it has been shortlisted in the Unlock Net Zero Live Awards.

The Sussex-based company has reached the final line up in the Innovation of the Year – Product or Service category for its Heat Recovery Retrofit Solution. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony, taking place alongside Housing 2023, on Tuesday 27 June, at Manchester Central.

The inaugural Unlock Net Zero Live Awards seek to recognise and champion progress on the journey to decarbonisation for the UK housing sector and the supply chain that supports it.

Vent-Axia’s Heat Recovery Retrofit Solution aims to help deliver decarbonisation in social housing by providing the right ventilation support on the journey to Net Zero Homes by 2050 and healthier homes.

One of the risks associated with retrofitting a low-energy home is the need to increase the airtightness of properties. If ventilation is not considered too this can create poor indoor air quality (IAQ) and condensation leading to mould growth, which blights many homes across the UK. The Heat Recovery Retrofit Solution range has been designed to provide increased ventilation while minimising unnecessary heat loss through heat recovery technology.

This new decentralised ventilation technology offers heat recovery and effective ventilation. It provides heat recovery ventilation, with discrete, smaller, easy to install wall and ceiling units, dramatically reducing the complexity and cost of installation, as well as meeting the PAS 2035 requirements. For residents it improves IAQ, comfort and cuts energy bills.

Natasha King, RMI Product Manager at Vent-Axia, comments: “We are delighted to be shortlisted in the Unlock Net Zero Live Awards for our Heat Recovery Retrofit Solution. The awards champion progress on the journey to decarbonisation for the UK housing sector, we are therefore thrilled that our Heat Recovery Retrofit Solution have been recognised in these prestigious awards.

This new ventilation range has been specifically designed for easy, lower cost retrofit of heat recovery to comply with the requirements of PAS 2035.

“This technology makes installation much simpler, providing effective heat recovery ventilation which up until now has only been achievable with complex, high-cost duct installation. Replacing what has historically been a central ducted heat recovery unit, with smaller easy to install wall and ceiling units, dramatically reduces the complexity and cost of installation.”

The Heat Recovery Retrofit Solution range consists of decentralised mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (dMVHR) units, which can be used on a room-by-room basis or used together to help maximise energy savings. DMVHR uses the heat from the stale air that is being extracted to warm up the fresh air that is coming in, while also saving energy.

The range comprises three different types of dMVHR: the Lo-Carbon Heat Save, Lo-Carbon Tempra and Lo-Carbon Calido – by using these units together as a Heat Recovery Retrofit Solution it will help maximise energy savings by introducing heat recovery to the property.

The Vent-Axia Lo-Carbon Heat Save, designed specifically for habitable rooms, can be set up in a single room or as part of a whole house heat recovery ventilation solution. This innovative technology is a first, alternate flow heat recovery offers a balanced modular customisable ventilation system that can be easily retrofitted, providing both supply and extract while recovering heat from the air.

Achieving up to 84% heat recovery, the Heat Save uses the warmth from outgoing air to heat incoming air to avoid heat loss and to reduce energy bills for households.

Vent-Axia’s Lo-Carbon Tempra single room heat recovery unit is a discreet, low energy, continuously running alternative to traditional extractor fans that offers affordable heat recovery of up to 78% and improves air quality on a room-by-room basis. The through-the- wall mounted Tempra unit simultaneously extracts stale air and introduces fresh air – warming the incoming airflow with heat recovered from the exhaust air.

Allowing simple installation through a 100mm diameter hole in a wall, the innovative design of the unit enables standard bathroom, kitchen, toilet or utility room fans to be easily changed for a Tempra. The unit’s performance, using a Lo-Carbon DC motor, brings significant energy savings and will help reduce a home’s carbon footprint with a low power consumption of just 3.2W on trickle rate and almost silent running at only 20dB(A).

Finally, the Vent-Axia Lo-Carbon Calido is a dMVHR unit that offers up to 80% heat recovery. The Calido is designed for retrofit properties, allowing landlords to easily install decentralised heat recovery ventilation in existing homes, improving IAQ and energy efficiency. Providing continuous ventilation, it is designed to remove stale air from wet rooms and replace it with fresh filtered air. The Calido has been developed to be ducted, therefore it can benefit more than one room at a time.

Vent-Axia

Vent-Axia has developed the Heat Recovery Retrofit Solution to help solve social housing’s problem of how to both cost-effectively improve the energy efficiency of properties without detrimentally affecting IAQ, which would damage the health of occupants and the property through condensation and mould. dMVHR offers an easy to install and cost-effective solution for social housing providers to help solve the energy efficiency retrofit conundrum.
