Wetherspoon’s pub benefits from Changing Places toileting facility

  • 20 Jun 2016

JD Wetherspoon’s Pilgrims Progress has been refurbished to include an assisted accessible Changing Places toilet, supplied and installed by Clos-o-Mat

Changing Places toileting facilities have been designed to ensure that anyone who requires the help of a carer for their personal hygiene has access to appropriate space and equipment.

Larger than conventional wheelchair-accessible toilets, Changing Places toilets are equipped with a hoist and an adult-sized, height adjustable changing bench as standard. They are considered ‘desirable’ under Building Regulations Approved Document M 2015 and BS8300:2009, for all new builds and refurbishment projects involving public buildings.

Currently, over 850 have been opened at venues across the UK.

Changing Places at The Pilgrims Process

The Pilgrims Progress’ new Changing Places is located by its beer garden entrance, adjacent to its other WC facilities. Users need a RADAR key to enter.

Wherever possible, Wetherspoon’s aims to include Changing Places facilities in its upgrade schemes. Its dedication to providing accessible toileting resulted in a win at the Loo of the Year Awards: the chain achieved the UK Trophy for Accessible Toilets, and a gold rating for almost 450 of its pubs.

The Changing Places at The Pilgrims Progress allows visitors with special needs to enjoy their time at the pub, knowing that there are suitable toileting facilities for them. In addition to the new WC, the recent £3.5 million refurbishment created a 31-bedroom hotel above, and enhanced facilities in the main pub.
