ASSA ABLOY’s Aperio wireless locks have been fitted to protect the Hospital Maria Middelares’ patients and data

Originally spread over two sites, the Hospital Maria Middelares has been re-designed as one complex, located in Belgium’s second biggest city, Ghent.

The facility will contribute to the city’s growing health care sector.

Access control with Aperio

Approximately 700 doors in the hospital’s first building have been fitted with ASSA ABLOY’s Aperio technology.

Developed to allow for the integration of non-wired doors with mechanical locks into access control systems, Aperio provides protection for the hospital’s medicines, equipment and data, as well as its patients.

Aperio Offline locks have been connected to the hospital’s Nedap access control system.

The installation ensures that the system can be extended whenever necessary.

The locks are completely wireless, allowing for increased efficiency and the maintenance of a building’s aesthetic.

Aperio also incorporates a smart card system, which uses MIFARE RFID technology. With their smart cards, the hospital’s staff are able to open certain doors and access secure areas.
