Sika has donated its ComfortFloor Pro flooring system to support the treatment of children with disabilities at the new charity-funded Rainbow Legacy House in Lancashire.
The Rainbow Legacy House hosts regular physical therapy sessions for children with multiple disabilities, complex health needs and brain injuries – therefore a flooring with the correct specifications is vital.
The surface had to be slippery enough to assist crawling and rolling, whilst maintaining some slip resistance so as not to cause a health risk.
The floor was also required to be comfortable, durable and easily maintained.
ComfortFloor Pro consists of a soft polyurethane resin, combined with a rubber crumb matting to give added cushioning underfoot.
The system’s chemical composition and texture is designed to absorb impact and offer an ideal surface for the intensive physical therapy taking place at the facility.
The flooring also provides significant practical benefits due to its durable and hygienic qualities.
The liquid applied system was quickly and easily installed in the therapy areas by Crown Flooring as one seamless piece, resulting in no joints which can harbour bacteria. Furthermore, the floor’s constitution meant that it resists the growth of bacteria and fungus and is very easy to clean.
ComfortFloor was donated in an attractive warm yellow chosen for Rainbow House. Three colours were used in the main areas of the facility to create a rainbow effect: Sika Sun Fire, Wild Orchid and Spring Grass.
For the cleaners’ room, an office and the kitchen, Umbra Grey was selected with an additional aggregate added to complement the rooms’ functionality.
In addition to the ComfortFloor Pro flooring system, Sika also donated its Sikagard Hygienic Wall coatings for the entire interior of the building.
The coatings compliment the flooring system by offering the same seamless properties, aiding cleaning by providing a surface that is hard-wearing and free from joints, seams and other features that provide a hiding place for dirt and bacteria.
The coatings are single component water-based products that are easy to apply by brush, roller or airless spray.
The coatings are designed to provide exceptional durability as well as an enhanced resistance to cracking, splitting and flaking.
With the flooring and wall system in place, Legacy Rainbow House hopes to provide exceptional comfort, minimise maintenance costs and provide a safe environment for the children’s therapy sessions.
