Tropical hardwood provides decay resistant decking

Silva Timber has become the UK’s sole supplier of Mandioqueira, a tropical hardwood that brings natural decay resistance to decking from the forests of Bolivia.

Covering almost 120 million acres, Bolivia’s tropical forests are known for their diversity.

Mandioqueira, a species of hardwood which is less commercially known, can be found in the depths of these forests.

Mandioqueira is a versatile wood with a light golden brown finish; straight-grained, the material is suitable for use in decking.

This year, Silva Timber became the UK’s sole supplier of the tropical hardwood.

It has been specified for use in a number of British projects; Norm Thomas, for instance, was impressed by the wood’s aesthetic appeal and chose it for his new deck.

Decay resistant hardwood

Mandioqueira is fully FSC accredited with class 3 durability.

It has been certified as suitable for exterior use out of ground contact and outdoor applications, making it ideal for use as garden decking.

It has also been used in the manufacture of outdoor furniture and for boat and ship buildings, as well as in other carpentry and joinery applications.

The wood is naturally decay resistant, ensuring its longevity.

Sansin Dec hardwood finish

Silva Timber’s Sansin Dec finish has been recommended for use with Mandioqueira. It comprises solids and stronger pigmentation to keep decks looking fresh for as long as possible.

The finish is available in over 78 tones, but Silva Timber believes that the shade Roasted Almond/Butternut is best suited for use with Mandioqueira.
