Live refurbishment of hospital ward completed by Novus

  • 3 Aug 2015

The in-patient Acute Frailty Unit has been designed with elderly patients in mind, allowing staff to assess each patient’s independence prior to returning home.

Novus team’ worked to complete the refurbishment around the hospital’s patients

The centre includes mock stairs and a home-from-home living area and kitchen.

Live ward refurbishment

The refurbishment took a total of five months to complete; it was carried out over six phases.

Novus worked around patients and staff throughout, completing one area at a time to keep disruption to a minimum.

In addition to installing the various assessment facilities, Novus redesigned the layout of each side room, reducing the number of beds and installing en-suite bathrooms.

The spacious layout provides room for additional equipment, such as hoists, and enables patients to move around easier.

The final stage of the project was the creation of an external courtyard for patients, to which Novus donated a number of fruit trees and a summer house.

Novus has previously partnered with Aintree University Hospital on a number of projects including a live refurbishment of the ophthalmology department and the creation of a mock theatre and training room.
