Cladding material from Silva Timber used on hospice building

  • 18 Feb 2015

Silva Timber’s Western Red Cedar Shingles were specified as cladding material for the new building

St. David’s Hospice Care previously managed its services from a converted Victorian house that was in need of renovation.

A new building was required for the hospice, which cares for more than 2,600 patients a year.

The hospice needed to add outpatient’s services to its existing home care and add a new day hospice.

The new building needed to include the elements of a health care facility without giving off a clinical feel.

With previous experience in designing for the health sector, KKE Architects were chosen to create the building.

Having previously worked with Silva Timber, the architects specified the company’s Western Red Cedar Shingles for use on the building’s exterior front elevation.

The cladding material was selected to provide a natural looking finish, which was required to add warmth to the health care facility.

Silva Timber’s Western Red Cedar Shingles have been designed to be sustainable. As they are produced using a simple process, they have a low embodied energy.

They are also able to trap carbon emission through carbon capture.
