DuPont Plantex GroundGrid gravel stabiliser was fitted in the city square of the medieval Portuguese city
After being labelled as the European Capital of Culture in 2012, Guimarães renovated its plaza, which serves as the town’s centrepiece as well as a tourist attraction and a meeting place for its citizens.
The renovation, which was commissioned by the Guimarães Town Hall, took place on uneven ground. Because of this, gravel migration was a problem.
DuPont Plantex GroundGrid was specified as a solution. The gravel stabiliser was applied to the ground in order to constrain the gravel and create a permeable surface.
The product has been designed to allow for sustainable drainage whilst simultaneously increasing the strength of soil.
DuPont Plantex GroundGrid gravel stabiliser was the material most used in the renovation of Guimarães. It provided an urban solution for the historic town, which is renowned for its medieval architecture and traditional buildings.
