Hot melt and mastic asphalt factory certified as environmentally friendly

  • 12 Feb 2015

IKO’s new hot melt and mastic asphalt factory has gained ISO 14001 accreditation with its products being certified to BES 6001

IKO opened its factory at Grangemill Quarry in September 2014 after investing £1.5 million into making the new facility as environmentally friendly as possible.

The company is now focusing on recycling raw materials, condensing the amount of packaging it uses and reducing its water and energy consumption.

In doing so, it hopes to minimise the impact its production has on the environment.

IKO has achieved BES 6001, a standard for the responsible sourcing of products, for its Pavestar, Roofstar, Permatrack, Permaphalt, PermaTEC, Permapark and Floorstar products.

All of these products are being manufactured at the Grangemill factory.

IKO’s factory at Clay Cross in Chesterfield obtained ISO 14001 accreditation, a standard for environmental management, last year.

The company’s Grangemill factory has now been certified to the same standard.

IKO is now aiming to have both standards across its three UK sites by 2016.
