Smoke and ventilation system specified for iconic Electric House redevelopment

  • 8 Jul 2015

Crest Nicholson Homes has undertaken the redevelopment of the Electric House, an iconic Grade II Listed building, which is located in the heart of Bristol.

SE Controls’ smoke and ventilation solution will play an integral role in protecting the new Electric House building

The historic building, which sits at six-storeys tall, is being converted into 85 luxurious city centre apartments.

Many of the buildings’ original features, which were designed by architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in the 1930s, have been reinstated to enhance its art deco style.

Smoke and ventilation solution

SE Controls has been contracted to provide an advanced smoke ventilation system to the new development.

Designed to vent smoke from Electricity House’s main atrium in the event of a fire, SE Controls’ solution is able to ensure that escape routes are kept clear.

With 37 SHEVTEC automatically controlled louvres, which incorporate ‘fall protection’ and IP rated external motors, the system can offer increased safety and easy access for maintenance.

21 low level air inlet louvres and linear door actuators have also been included in the system.

They are controlled by a series of OS2 control panels with integral battery back up.

The solution is fully compliant with the latest Building Regulations, with SE Controls’ SHEVTEC louvres holding BS EN 12101: 2 accordance and its OS2 control panels meeting the BS EN 12101 standard.
