£1.6 million was recently spent on renovating Wicksteed Park, a historic public space that was originally created for people of the community to enjoy.
The park’s founder, Charles Wicksteed, aimed to provide families with a sustainable area where they could experience the outdoors and adventure with their children.
A main feature of the park is its lake, which was targeted for restoration as part of the project.
In order to provide the park’s visitors with as much access to the lake as possible, a footbridge was constructed by CTS Bridges.
A boardwalk and pontoon was also built by Walcon Marine.
Created to encourage the park’s visitors to venture to its lesser used areas, the footbridge enables access to the arboretum whilst the pontoon and boardwalk provide links to the furthest areas of the lake.
Over 4,500 linear metres of JB CitiDeck were installed to clad the lake’s new bridges, boardwalk, floating pontoon and pier.
JB CitiDeck has been designed to have a less abrasive grit than traditional anti-slip decking.
With their smooth surfaces, the deck boards minimise the risk of trip hazards as they do not have deep grooves or coarse aggregate.
The smoothness of the boards also offer comfort for pushchairs and wheelchair users without compromising on safety.
JB CitiDeck was specified by Tasou Associates; the project’s contractor ordered it cut to length in order to save time when installing it on site.
The boards were supplied with all screws, fixings and the required end-coat.
