Carr Gate’s new police training facility has been painted with products from Johnstone’s Trade to meet its specific needs

New training facilities for the West Yorkshire police have been installed at Carr Gate in Wakefield, including firearm ranges, classrooms, custody cells, indoor and outdoor public order arenas and a staff canteen and gym.

The facility needed different paints with specific features to decorate its contrasting environments. As each area of the training facility has a unique purpose, a range of paints needed to be used.

The project’s painting contractor, Broadley Group, called on Johnstone’s technical advisory team, PPG Extra, to achieve these requirements.

With a hard wearing finish needed for the office area, Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt chosen for the task, whilst its Acrylic Eggshell was applied in the staff shower areas. Being resistant to condensation, the paint suited its environment, saving the need for future maintenance.

A slip-resistant coating was required for the 10,000 square metre floor of the ballistics training arena. To achieve this, Johnstone’s Two Pack Epoxy Water Based Floor Paint was used.

Johnstone’s team also dealt with the interior walls of the concrete custody cells by applying its Two Pack Anti-Graffiti Finish. The paint created a tough, tile-like surface, allowing for intensive cleaning and the easy removal of contaminants such as grease and graffiti.
