The event attracted hundreds of guests, as a shortlist of 20 projects was drawn up by Johnstone’s panel of technical experts. Prospective candidates were judged on the quality of the decorative finish, the intricacy of the work involved and the technical and logistical challenges faced.
Shortlisted candidates fell into 5 main categories – Residential, Period and Restoration, Health and Education, Commercial and the overall ‘Supreme Winner’.
Guests participated in an interactive vote on the night to decide the winners, with Paul Crosby Painting and Decorating receiving Johnstone’s Painter of the Year 2014 Supreme Winner award.

The York-based company won favour with voters for its restoration of a Grade II listed Georgian building, following its conversion to a luxurious family home and self-contained rooftop apartment.
Over 10 months, the small team restored the building’s original features and created a contemporary living space, after it had lay empty for the past 15 years.
Commenting on the award, Paul Crosby said: I am incredibly proud of our work at Purey Cust – it was challenging at the best of times but very rewarding.
Receiving national recognition is like a dream come true for us as a small company and I’m sure the accolade will definitely help us to stand out on future projects. It was pretty nerve-wracking on the night, especially being up against some of the biggest names in the industry and I still can’t quite believe that we won!
In other categories. Alfred Bagnall & Sons were recognised for its project at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, collecting the Health and Education award. The Period and Restoration category was awarded to Mitie Property Services (UK) for its work at the Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield, whilst, Alldec won the Commercial category for its work at Wembley Stadium.
Entries are now being considered for Johnstone’s Painter of the Year 2015, with any project completed between Jan 1st and Dec 31st 2015 eligible.
