Roofing system OPTIM-R from Kingspan achieves excellent U-values

The system helped to achieve the required tapered fall with a minimal build-up

Helping to deliver optimum thermal performance and the required tapered fall with a minimal build-up, Kingspan OPTIM-R panels use vacuum insulation technology to achieve a thermal conductivity of 0.007 W/mK.

The roof on the building comprises two pitched sections either side of a flat roof which sits above the central corridor, which previously lacked the space in the central area to create the necessary fall whilst maintaining the target U-value.

Some 30mm of the Kingspan OPTIM-R Roofing System was specified by Langtry-Langton Architect’s, allowing the fabric’s thermal performance to be achieved without compromising the building design in any way.

Another layer of Kingspan Thermataper TT47 LPC/FM was also installed above the roofing system by Tickhill Roofing in order to provide a mitred 1:80 fall to the drainage outlets.

Checks and approvals minimised

Holding LABC Registered System approval, Kingspan OPTIM-R panels help to minimise the Building Control checks and approvals when installed to recommendations.

Meadowfields Extra Care Housing Scheme in Thirsk is a partnership between North Yorkshire County Council, Hambleton District Council and Housing & Care 21.

Keepmoat has overseen work on the project, which when completed in the spring of 2015, will incorporate apartments, a restaurant, hair dressers, a new public library and 24 hour planned and emergency care.

The Housing Scheme attained a BREEAM rating of ‘very good,’ partially down to Kingspan’s specialist design team providing layouts for products to ensure that the roof met U-value requirements with a thin build up.

The apartments will allow older residents to carry out independent living at a site that is designed and build to specifically meet their personal needs.
