The Babraham Institute is an independent charitable life sciences institute, based in Cambridge. The new Bennett Building is an energy efficient bio-incubator centre that houses both laboratory and office facilities, specifically designed to accommodate growing companies.

DLS ECKLITE SC system is the first of its kind to be installed in the UK.

DLS ECKLITE SC system

The DLS ECKLITE SC system is manufactured by GLASSOLUTIONS’ sister company Eckelt in Austria. The insulated glass facade integrates an electrically operated louvre within the cavity, providing efficient solar and glare control – it is the first of its kind to be installed in the UK.

The louvres, along with other integral parts, are thereby permanently protected against weathering and are maintenance free.

The thermal insulation of 0.6 W/m_K fulfils all requirements for passive house architecture.

Scheuco FW60 curtain walling allowed toggle glazing and silicone sealing of insulated aluminium panels and single glazed, glass spandrel panels, in addition to the glass units containing the automated blinds.

The £800,000 glazing contract also included an 80m_ glass spiral staircase. This forms an emergency escape route within the flagship building, located at the entrace to the site.
