Axion Polymers believes that alternative fuels from waste must be treated as products, rather than as unnecessary surplus.
Solid Recovery Fuel (SRF) products must meet a consistent level of high quality to ensure that they are beneficial and effective.
Companies must operate within strict quality controls to make sure that SRF is produced to an adequate standard. Axion Polymers has invested in a range of new facilities to meet this criteria.
A large furnace has been fitted at the company’s Shredder Waste Advanced Processing Plant (SWAPP) in Manchester’s Trafford Park.
The furnace will work to enhance accurate measurement and testing of Axfuel SRF 30’s physical and thermal properties.
A Quality Control team has also been recruited to conduct in-house product testing. The team will analyse critical aspects, such as SRF calorific value and chemical composition.
The team will work within ISO 9001 operating procedures; samples will be sent to external laboratories weekly, where they will be subject to further testing and verification.
Axfuel SRF 30 is an environmental, high-energy fuel. Derived from automotive shredder residue, it is a sub 30mm-sized mixture of textiles, rubber and plastic.
Other materials, such as fibre-fluff and foam, are also included within the fuel’s composition, offering a calorific value of 18-22 MJ/Kg.
The fuel, which is sourced from old vehicles, is available in large tonnages. It is recycled to offer an alternative high-energy fuel to companies that wish to demonstrate their environmental credentials.
