Data loggers specified to monitor Building Management Systems

SDC South West Energy Centre recommended Tinytag data loggers to South Devon College.

Designed to measure temperatures, the data loggers were specified so the college can ensure that the temperatures within its buildings comply with specific guidelines.

Monitoring Building Management Systems

South Devon College’s room temperature is controlled by a Building Management System. Five Tinytags were fitted to confirm that it was functioning correctly.

After results were successfully gained from the monitoring, a further five data loggers were purchased.

As the data loggers are able to determine temperatures at different times, the college’s Deputy Property Service Manager is able to monitor the BMS’ performance over the weekend.

Using this information, the timings can be adjusted so that the rooms get to the required temperature before the students arrive on Monday mornings.

Since the installation of the Tinytags, the college has adjusted its BMS to ensure that the heating comes on in the mornings and the temperature does not drop.

The Tinytag Explorer software has also been utilised; it provides graphs which can be used to help explain how the temperature fluctuates within the room during different times of the day.

The loggers can be set to activate an LED alarm to alert staff when the temperature drops below 16°.
