Breather membrane offers discreet protection against UV damage

  • 12 May 2015

A period coach house, which accommodates a growing family, has benefited from the construction of a two-storey extension.

Located in Long Ashton, Bristol, the property’s new structure was erected as part of a self-build project.

To ensure the aesthetics of the new build were sympathetic to its surroundings, a Western Red Cedar cladding system was specified for installation.

DuPont Tyvek UV Façade was chosen to sit beneath the timber cladding, covering the entire structure to protect it against UV damage.

Installing the breather membrane

As the cladding was not continuous, an invisible breather membrane was required. With its black finish, DuPont Tyvek UV Façade was considered to be the most appropriate solution.

The product was wrapped around the structure, with DuPont Tyvek Butyl tape and DuPont Tyvek UV Façade tape used to seal the laps and penetrations.

With its installation ensuring airtightness, the breather membrane contributed to the extension’s impressive credentials; after completion, the building managed to achieve through wall U-Values of 0.15W/m².k.

DuPont Tyvek UV Façade

Designed to withstand excessive UV exposure, DuPont Tyvek UV Façade allows for greater freedom when designing ventilated façades.

With the ability to protect against air-leakage, wind, water and interstitial condensation, the breather membrane holds the CE Mark in accordance with EN 13859-2.
