The pilot installation in a newly built £900,000 three storey property in Woolton Hill near Newbury featured REHAU PE-Xa pipework fitted using its conventional Tacker fixing system on the ground and first floor and the new radiator in the floor’ REHAU Easy Panel system on the second floor.
The project was carried out by Richard Thompson working for A.P. Faulkner (Heating) Ltd.
Faulkners liaised closely with REHAU’s technical team who were keen to demonstrate just how favourably the new REHAU system compares with both conventional underfloor heating and radiator based systems in terms of installation time and complexity.
Richard Thompson working for A.P. Faulkner (Heating) Ltd:
The idea of fitting a radiator in the floor’ on the upper floors of a property makes perfect sense as it gets rid of cumbersome radiators. In terms of the installation, the structural floor panels required for REHAU Easy Panel were installed by the carpentry team on the job, with the end grooves routed out to allow the pipework to be laid quickly and easily.
From here, I was particularly impressed by the simplicity of the REHAU Easy Panel system the majority of the installation could certainly be carried out by a less experienced installer and with clever features such as arrows on the flow and return valve and a pre-drilled fixing plate for the thermostat, it was virtually fool proof. The drawings on the project which REHAU provided were also very easy to follow, and the pre-routed REHAU Easy Panel structural floor system made sure that there was no risk of the pipework being unevenly spaced and resulting in hot or cold spots.
Rob Ewels, the REHAU Business Team Leader responsible for the new REHAU Easy Heat system:
We developed REHAU Easy Heat with the needs of the house builder and homeowner firmly in mind but we also recognised the vital role which installers will have to play in the success of the system.
We worked closely with companies like Faulkners to ensure that it is installer friendly’ and pilot installations like this one have helped to confirm that the system does incorporate all of the features which they value.
