Thermofol single ply membrane is lightweight and durable

  • 20 Oct 2014

Single ply membrane has superior thermal performance

Consisting of eight roof areas on a variety of different pitches totalling over 3,400m2,  the membrane was chosen for use at Oughterard National School due to its lightweight, long lasting and visually appealing characteristics.

Welded roof profiles were incorporated along all the hips and valleys to give the appearance of a standing seam metal roof, requiring a high level of workmanship from contractor Noel Deane Roofing & Cladding.

Shortlisted for design and architecture award

Since its opening in September 2013, the school building has been recognised for its design and architecture by a number of award giving bodies, including being shortlisted for the Best Educational Building at the RIAI 2014 Irish Architecture Awards.

The school has also been credited for its environmental efforts in collecting and storing rainwater in a reclamation tank to enable it to be used throughout the building.

Oughterard National School was designed by architects to be a modern and aesthetically pleasing learning environment which uses sustainable technologies and construction techniques to reduce the building’s environmental impact.

The school is a single-storey primary school situated in Connemara district which features 16 state-of-the-art classrooms.
