Fire resistant glazing showcased at FIREX 2015

  • 29 Apr 2015

The initiative, which will take place between June 16-18, will show ‘best practice passive fire protection in action.’

GGF Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Technical Affairs Giles Wilson

The GGF sponsored programme will highlight the benefits of effective passive fire protection through a variety of interactive exhibits, live demonstrations and free seminars.

This includes regular tours of BM TRADA’s 80m² Passive Fire Protection Zone, of which the centrepiece will be a full-size corridor and suspended ceiling simulation.

The exhibits will demonstrate the best practice specification and installation of passive fire protection measures, including fire doors and glazing and fire stopping products.

The tour will also take participants to full size display models of a charred fire door, a glazing system and a fire stopping configuration.

These will demonstrate how passive fire protection measures prevent fire from spreading.

Fire resistant glazing

The GGF will be promoting its fire resistant glazing systems throughout the event.

The systems have been developed to combine transparency with resilience against fire for what is described as an ‘essential built-in element in all types of buildings.’

GGF Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Technical Affairs Giles Wilson commented, “It is very positive that the importance of fire resistant glazing will be highlighted at this high profile exhibition.”

Alongside the tour, a series of short time-lapse films will be available to visitors, which demonstrate a fire resistance test on a pair of doors and a glazing system.

Additionally, there will be fire door maintenance survey demonstrations and a seminar on the role of third party certification for fire door manufacture, installation and maintenance.

Fire safety campaign

Throughout the event GGF representatives will be on hand to discuss the progress of the ongoing GGF Fire Safety Campaign to Government.

The campaign emphasises that fire-resistant glazing should be installed in all public buildings.

Furthermore, selected visitors to the Passive Fire Protection Demonstration Zone will be able to discuss the activities of the GGF Fire Resistant Glazing Group (FRGG).

In addition, all visitors to the BM TRADA stand will be offered free copies of the GGF’s specialist publications on fire resistant glazing systems.

The GGF will be highlighting its Fire Resistant Glazing Training courses for installers across the UK.

Graham Edwards, BM TRADA Head of Group marketing commented, “It promises to be a very busy show and with the GGF on board we intend to achieve our shared broad objective, to provide invaluable guidance and advice for anyone responsible for fire protection measures”
