Rising damp discussed in CPD seminars

  • 23 Feb 2015

Safeguard has designed its CPD seminar to educate building professionals on the causes and treatment of rising damp

The seminar, which has been RIBA approved, provides a briefing on what causes rising damp and presents delegates with a range of solutions that are available to treat it.

Rising damp occurs when water ascends through the pores of a wall’s material.

The CPD seminar explains how restricting evaporation can make the problem of rising damp much worse.

It advises building professionals to keep this in mind when specifying external wall insulation.

The seminar also describes the various treatments for rising damp, stressing that some are more effective than others.

For example, it explains that the most popular treatment for rising damp is chemical damp proof courses (DPCs), which now come in form of silane rods.

The seminar will enlighten its attendees on why silane rods have proved to be more effective than previous DPCs, such as silane/siloxane cream injections and silicone or sterate liquids.

The CPD will also explore alternatives to the 3:1 sand:cement render solution that is often used to re-plaster walls that have been affected by rising damp.
