Manchester-based Polyflor was selected by the team of judges from the manufacturing sector to receive the award, due to the company’s long term commitment to sustainability and responsible sourcing of materials.

Polyflor’s Manufaturing Director Steve Mulholland commented on being presented the award: “The Polyflor team is delighted to have won this award, especially as it was our first time at the event and we were representing the flooring industry.

“To be recognised as one of the North West region’s top manufacturers and a company that prioritises environmental issues is a fantastic achievement for us. Our sustainability strategy is to minimise the environmental impact of our products and operations where we set ambitious objectives for ourselves.”

ISO 9001 and 14001 certificated Polyflor has successfully reduced its carbon footprint through plant operations and logistics, in addition to collecting rain water on site so that 96% of the water used in their vinyl manufacturing processes is recycled.

Polyflor is also the only flooring manufacturer to achieve BES 6001 certification for responsible sourcing, gaining a Very Good rating, with raw materials sourced from local suppliers with sound environmental credentials and up to 85% sustainable materials used in their products.

As vinyl is 100% recyclable, post production waste vinyl is fed back into new product with Polyflor’s flooring including up to 40% recycled content.

Polyflor employs around 500 people in Greater Manchester and in 2015 is celebrating 100 years of manufacturing at their production site in Whitefield, Bury.
