Concrete block paving used for school’s hard landscaping

  • 23 Feb 2015

Bradfield School benefited from a bespoke installation of Brett’s Beta concrete block paving, which was made to suit the building’s requirements

The protected position of the site meant that the project’s contractors and design team were tasked with planning restrictions that needed to be addressed with sensitivity.

One requirement was that the hard landscaping outside the building had to be sympathetic to the surroundings.

The project’s architects, HLM, specified Brett Landscaping’s Beta concrete block paving for the job after being impressed by the supplier’s natural colour palette.

The architects felt that the minimal edge chamfer of the concrete block paving would help them create a clean and smooth aesthetic.

Brett’s Beta concrete block paving, which has been manufactured and tested to BS EN 1338: 2003, is able to provide slip resistance, making it suitable for installation outside a school.

The architects had the task of covering 4,000 square metres and required 3 blocks of different sizes.

With this in mind, Brett worked alongside the team to design, blend and produce a bespoke product.

A 60mm block run of its Beta concrete paving was supplied to the school in a unique colour to create a naturalistic setting.

This ensured that the hard landscaping of the cedar clad school blended in with the National Peak District Park’s picturesque grounds beyond.
