Service lift to be donated to charitable cause for Stannah’s birthday

Suitable projects could include a children’s hospice, youth project, activity centre, village hall, care home or school that is trying to raise funds for a service lift.

Microlift service lifts make life easier

Microlifts are most commonly used in pubs, hotels and bars to transport food and drink and allow staff to avoid the stairs with big loads. Dumbwaiters are also used to deliver money in casinos, deliver dentures in dentists, bring books into a library, shift shoes in retail, lift loaves at the bakery and for transferring toddies at a distillery.

The first Microlift

The first Microlift was though to have been installed at Luigi’s Italian Ristorante in Tavistock Street, London in the early 70s, with a duplex pair being installed and renewed twenty years later. Following that was a lift installed in Mayfield School, St Leonards, which is still in use 39 years later and serviced by the London and South East branch of Stannah.

Famous lifts

Microlifts have been installed in well-known places such as the Royal Mint, the Royal Observatory, the Stock Exchange, the Shard, the set of Eastenders, the Old Vic, Lambeth Palace, Sunninghill Park, Lords Cricket Ground and Twickenham Rugby Ground.

Serving at sea

Microlifts are serving their purpose on Offshore Patrol Vessels such as the Irish Navy’s LÄ Samuel Beckett, Tattershall Castel, Waverley Steam Ship, HMS Warrior, Sail Training Ships Tenacious and Lord Nelson.

Send in your selfies

Over the next few months, Stannah will be inviting people who own or use their dumbwaiters to add them to its ‘map of Microlifts,’ with customers encouraged to send in their selfies alongside the lift.
