Structherm’s Structural External Wall Insulation (SEWI) has been installed on a Glasgow residential development containing 270 homes.
The three 16-storey high rise buildings; West Court, Clyde Court and Park Court at Littleholm Place were found to be in need of significant redevelopment following a survey ordered by West Dunbartonshire Council.
Structherm’s structural insulated overcalling system was specified in October 2014 to be installed on the buildings’ upper wall.
It’s insulated brick slip and render cladding, Wonderwall, was also fitted to the ground-floor walls as part of a £4.8 million project to improve the building’s robustness against concrete decay, energy efficiency and overall external appearance.
The project took place whilst residents remained in their homes, minimising disruption whilst extending the life of the properties.
Janicke Aitken, General Manager of Structherm, commented on the installation: “This was one of the largest installations we have undertaken in recent years, and we have been working hard with the council and contractors over the last 12 months to ensure the structural defects of the buildings are corrected and their appearance and thermal efficiency have been boosted.”
The wall surfaces of the original buildings were clad in thin concrete panels which had been showing signs of corrosion and were becoming loose.
The Structural External Wall Insulation re-secured the panels by spanning from floor slab to floor slab and fixing into the load bearing frame. This meant that the potentially costly and hazardous job of having to remove and repair each panel was avoided.
A standard EWI system would have had to fix into the panels at regular intervals, causing additional structural instability.
Structherm’s Structural External Wall Insulation recently received a national award for best refurbishment at a residential development in Worcester at the Insulated Rendering & Cladding Association (INCA) Awards last week.
