Smokey Blue woodstain on the Peacock Tower

Sadolin Classic woodstain finish protects The Peacock Hide

  • 26 Nov 2015

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust has specified Sadolin’s Classic woodstain finish for a landmark bird hide at the London Wetland Centre in Hammersmith.

The Peacock Hide is a three storey structure that offers panoramic views over London, frequented by both experienced birdwatchers through to those new to wildlife watching.

Due to the building’s location it is often exposed to severe weather conditions meaning over the years the timbers have become weathered.

Classic woodstain finish

A Smokey Blue shade of Sadolin Classic was applied to the building’s wood to provide a protective finish and blend in with the surrounding environment.

The versatile woodstain – ideal for use on decking, cladding and fencing – absorbs deeply into the timber to provide exceptional protection against the elements.

Crown Paints donated some of the Sadolin Classic for the project which was then supplied through Brewers in Surbiton.

Brewers have a long-standing relationship with the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust. The company also provided support for the restoration through the company’s Spraystore hire division, which lent a spray unit for the application.

John Arbon of WWT London Wetland Centre commented: “The high is looking terrific now and we’re delighted with the result. We are very grateful for the donation. Peacock Hide is now protected for many years to come and the Sadolin Classic has applied very well.”

‘This is Sadolin’

For joinery projects, the woodstain finish can be used together with Sadolin Extra – a durable, translucent woodstain that creates a high-quality finish.

Two coats of Sadolin Extra can applied over a single coat of Sadolin Classic to deliver a hard-wearing and attractive finish.
