The McAvoy Group has been contracted to deliver a multi-million pound school-based project, using offsite construction techniques; it has secured preferred bidder status on another.
Last month, McAvoy announced that it had obtained the contractual rights to build Goresbrook School in London’s Borough of Barking and Dagenham.
Founded by United Learning, Goresbrook is one of Britain’s largest Wave 3 Free School developments. When completed, it will provide education for children and young people from nursery through to sixth form.
McAvoy was awarded the contract – along with preferred bidder status for a similar venture at Lynch Hill Enterprise Academy Trust – through the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) Framework.
Each project will receive subsidisation from the Education Funding Agency (EFA).
The company intends to make use of offsite construction, which is widely considered to be the best way of meeting the UK’s demand for teaching facilities within its School Building Programme.
With its benefits including speed, decreased disruption and flexibility, offsite construction methods have been used by McAvoy in 12 projects over the last three years.
The company is encouraging Britain’s education authorities to embrace smart build techniques and offsite methods of construction, which also have a reduced impact on the environment.
