voestalpine Metsec has provided a host of cable management solutions to the newly developed 5 Broadgate office space in London.
5 Broadgate is located in Central London within close proximity of Liverpool Street Stage. The 12-storey office building is due to open this year and will be used by a global financial services company.
Metsec was contacted by electrical contractor Marcoe Electrical to provide made-to-order cable containment.
Whilst robust cable management is important within all modern office developments, it was particularly crucial at 5 Broadgate due to the need for strong performing ventilation to prevent overheating equipment within the office.
Metsec’s cable ladders and trays are available in a wide range of sizes and load capacities, offering designers maximum flexibility. The products are easy to install, with simple connections between sections. Designed as complete systems, sections have integral connectors for all fittings as well as fixing bolts.
5 Broadgate achieved an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating, meaning that sustainability was also a focal point within the project. Metsec’s BES 6001 accreditation, covering responsible sourcing of products, ensured that this was achievable.
Richard Allne, general manager of Metsec’s Cable Management division elaborated: “Metsec is one of only a handful of cable management suppliers with BES 6001 accreditation. Suppliers must provide evidence of a holistic approach from the mining of raw materials, right through to their manufacturing and processing phases.
This is particularly important for clients and contractors driving environmental, social and corporate responsibility, while upholding best practice. Accreditation provides proof that customers are buying a high quality, audited product. It also gives reassurance that product quality supports the duty of care responsibilities main contractors and end clients have for health and safety on their sites.”
Mark Crilley, Director at Marcoe Electrical, commented: “We were very impressed with the way Metsec provided made to order, non-stock parts for the project. Their cable ladders and trays are very diverse and come in a wide range of sizes and load capacities, which allowed us a great level of flexibility when utilising the products.”
Marcoe Electrical has since specified Metsec products for its Mace MEP Services Ltd project, Land Securities major mixed use development Nova, Victoria which incorporates commercial offices and residential apartments next to London Victoria Train Station.
