Chiltern Railways‘ new Bicester Village and Oxford Parkway stations have benefited from the installation of alsecco’s Basic 4 external wall insulation system, which provides a ceramic slip and render finish.
Developed by Chiltern Railways, the new stations were designed to boast a similar, contemporary look. As the project’s contracted architect, CJCT Architects specified alsecco’s Basic 4 external wall insulation system to provide an aesthetically-pleasing ceramic tile finish for both buildings.
alsecco was tasked with colour-matching the system’s ceramic slips to Chiltern Railways’ corporate blue. Prior to the installation, which was carried out by Façade Systems (UK), a number of sample panels were manufactured and sent to the client for approval.
The slips were installed on the exterior of the buildings; they were also used to provide column details, and the interior for the waiting areas and ticket halls in both stations.
Throughout the project, alsecco provided a consistent level of customer service, offering design advice and technical support.
Basic 4 has been commended for its ability to comprehend the curve of the buildings’ feature glazed brick slip wall. It was paired with a cement particle board from Fermacell to offer a watertight solution for the new stations.
In addition, the system ensures a durable, mechanically strong façade, which is easy to clean and maintain. These factors make it particularly suitable for application in high traffic areas, such as the new railway stations.
