St. Andrew’s Primary School in Kettering has benefitted from a range of timber doorstops and architectural ironmongery specified by ASSA ABLOY UK Specification.
Northamptonshire County Council collaborated with pHp Architects, Jeakins Weir contractors and UK Specification to deliver a full-scale redevelopment of the school.
David Shields, Specification Development Manager at ASSA ABLOY UK explained how the company’s latest BIM objects assisted with the specification process.
He said: “Our product families for the education sector have been specifically grouped to take into account the factors including the number of cycles, the building life cycle, and maintenance schedules.
Together with the use of BIM to deliver this data, which can add value to the whole life cost of the building, we were able to specify a fit-for-purpose, cost-saving and sustainable project.”
Simon Pritchard of pHp Architects elaborated: “The doorset specification was part of a complex series of extensions on the property, providing larger classroom space. We were working on a confined site while keeping the school in use during this time, so this proved challenging at times.
We were very impressed with the finish on the products, and the specification process was smooth and simple, thanks to the team. David was able to suggest products and fill in the gaps in our design. The alternative is to leave the selection to the contractor, which can leave you open to the selection of products of lower quality.”
The specification comprised of child-safe ASSA finger guards, which act as protective shields to prevent trapped fingers, and ASSA ABLOY DC500 door closers. The door closers feature cam motion technology which allows heavy doors to be easily opened by young users.
ASSA ABLOY also specified all of the associated ironmongery including UNION’s keyULTRA 6 pin masterkey system, providing the school with complete access control.
