Clos-o-Mat equipment for disabled users

Mainstream schools made suitable for disabled pupils with Clos-o-Mat

  • 14 Apr 2016

To ensure the adequate accommodation of children with special needs in mainstream schools, a number of alterations have been made to several Cornish institutions.

To tackle the medical, pastoral and access requirements of disabled pupils, a total of 19 Cornish schools were surveyed, in cooperation with Occupational Therapists. Cornwall Council contracted CORMAC to make a number of alterations to the schools, to ensure the smooth integration of new pupils.

The works were scheduled within a tight timeframe to reduce the risk of disruption to school activity.

Improving schools for disabled children

Working closely with Clos-o-Mat, CORMAC utilised its surfacing contracting teams to improve path and ramp accessibility at the schools.

The company’s internal disabled aid refurbishment teams set about installing ceiling track hoists into washrooms and fitting specialist platform and wheelchair lifts. A full hygiene and medical facility was created for one school.

Clos-o-Mat also supplied a number of its Palma Vita wash and dry toilets, which have been designed to provide simultaneous flushing and washing, with the added benefit of warm air drying.

The alterations will enable new pupils with disabilities to enjoy and participate in school life with minimal effort.
