CMS Window Systems has assisted Fife Council in delivering energy efficient windows and doors for 31 new build homes in Orebank Terrace, Thornton.
The Orebank Terrace development forms part of Fife Council’s Affordable Housing Programme, which aspires to create 2,700 new homes by 2017. The completion of the development marks the programme’s halfway point.
Ranging in size from one bedroom to five, the 31 new homes have been developed to provide comfortable and affordable accommodation for social housing tenants. Comprising a combination of bungalows, cottage flats and two-storey houses, the properties have been integrated into the estate, contributing to a more balanced community.
Working in conjunction with Sinclair Watts, CMS was contracted to fabricate and fit a number of A-rated PVCu windows and composite doors for Orebank Terrace. The company boasts a wealth of experience in the social housing sector, and in delivering energy efficient products to it.
CMS began work on the Orebank Terrace site in April 2015, with the aim of providing economic windows and doors to minimise the buildings’ running costs.
Its PVCu casement windows were deemed the ideal solution: boasting impressive airtightness and U-values, they work to reduce heat transfer, allowing residents to heat their homes at a lower comparative cost.
The homes in Orebank Terrace were designed to complement the style of the houses in neighbouring streets, incorporating similar colours, design features and finishing materials – such as grey and terracotta tiled roofs – throughout.
CMS specified its windows and doors with white frames to ensure alignment with the local aesthetic.
The development was completed in March; since beginning their tenancy, the new residents have commented on the quality and fuel efficiency of their homes.
