A specialist floor surface system manufactured by Sika has been installed at a bottling plant in Wales to meet the demanding hygiene regulations set within the food and drink industry.

All Sika flooring specifications are available via NBS+ and are supported with comprehensive technical support.

The system was specified for the production line floor at the Radnor Hills Mineral Water Company in Knighton. The surface had to adhere to industry hygiene standards, withstand heavy machinery and be easy to maintain.

Specialist contractor Coatech chose the Sikafloor PurCem polyurethane resin system for the application.

The Sikafloor system comprised 100m2 of Sikafloor PurCem 20, which was laid to a depth of 9mm following the re-screeding and sloping of an old warehouse floor to ease cleaning and drainage.

The Sikafloor system was also used as a seal coat for covings, to ensure ease of cleaning and hygiene.

High strength screed

Sikafloor 20N PurCem is a polyurethane modified cement screed. The water-based system is resistant to chemicals, fatty aides and temperature and requires no primer, so its installation is far less complicated than many other systems.

The end result is a joint-free surface that is both slip and abrasion resistant.

All of Sika’s flooring systems for food and beverage production areas adhere to industry best practices and building regulations and legislation. The finished production floor at Radnor Hills Mineral Water can be steam cleaned to maintain its hygienic surface.
