Britain’s first permanent Passivhaus show home has been built, achieving outstanding airtightness with Wraptite-SA air barrier membrane.
Built by Potton, the new show home is the latest addition to the Self Build Show Centre, which is based in St. Neots. As a Passivhaus project, it required exceptional thermal performance and a low level of air leakage.
Wraptite-SA was specified for use on the show home’s walls and roof. Vapour permeable and airtight, the BBA-certified solution allowed for the external positioning of the air barrier. The result is a robust installation, with few penetrations for building services and structural elements.
The membrane works to prevent lateral air movement, which has improved the building’s thermal performance.
The Passivhaus standard must be demonstrated by means of an airtightness test, using a blower door. The air change rate must be less than, or equal to, 0.60ac/h to meet Passivhaus levels. At a recent Self Build Live event, Potton managed to improve on its target, achieving 0.5ac/h.
