Sustainable housing development uses Kingspan OPTIM-R Flooring

  • 7 Jun 2016

A new residential development in Battersea Village has met its strict sustainability goals with help from the Kingspan OPTIM-R Flooring System.

Cobalt Place is made up of two, five and six storey apartment blocks and two townhouses designed by AHMM Architects. The development combines modern architecture with high sustainability standards.

The townhouses use 111m2 of the Kingspan OPTIM-R Flooring system, which was specified for its high level of thermal performance.

Installed by Oventrop alongside its underfloor heating system, the system is made up of two layers of 40mm Kingspan OPTIM-R vacuum insulation panels with a 3mm Rubber Crumb underlay and a 3mm Geficell overlay.

The installation was completed with the addition of Kingspan OPTIM-R flex infill strips fitted around the floor edges. The panels helped achieve an overall u-value of 0.08 W/m2.K on the ground floor.

Gavin Welsman of Overtrop explained how Kingspan’s specialist technical team provided detailed layouts and instruction for the project to ensure the best levels of thermal performance were achieved.

He said: “Once we got in touch with the Kingspan OPTIM-R team, everything fell into place. They even arranged site surveys and delivery to the site. The panels arrived pre-sized to the buildings’ dimensions and were simple to install, with no extra cutting or moulding of the flex infill strips required – ideal for the tight space and timescale we were working with.”

Kingspan OPTIM-R panels measuring 20-40mm thickness are the only insulation panels on the market that are certified under the independent BDA Agrément scheme.
