Axion Consulting has successfully designed, developed and implemented a data analysis tool for its power generation client, Ferrybridge Multifuel Energy (MEL).
MEL’s Yorkshire-based facility has a 70MW output; it provides low-carbon electricity, derived from refuse fuel, to around 16,000 homes.
The plant treats around 600,000 tonnes of residual waste a year. Analysing this material was a time-consuming task for the facility’s Chemist, Environmental Officer and Fuels Liaison, Dr. Claire Spencer. Checking weekly test and compliance data from multiple suppliers was a complicated process.
To improve data analysis at the plant, Axion devised a spreadsheet system for the fuels, which combines all data testing in one model. The data tool, which was implemented over a six-month period, has been developed to accurately describe infeed materials and identify contract compliance.
The solution provides reports, supplementing MEL’s technical operation and contractual agreements with its suppliers; this ensures that the plant’s material will not exceed certain limits, whilst saving time on analytical reports.
It also allows MEL to access important information in a straightforward format, enabling efficient management review.
Axion’s system can be applied to a variety of other process applications, which require accurate complex data analysis.
