NARM offers ‘an introduction to daylighting with rooflights’

NARM has published a new online CPD seminar promoting sustainable rooflight specification.

The RIBA approved seminar, entitled ‘an introduction to daylighting with rooflights’, lasts approximately 30 minutes and aims to help specifiers understand the basics of designing daylight into buildings with rooflights.

It applies to both domestic and non-domestic projects and is relevant to stages 0, 1 and 2 of the RIBA Plan of Work.

Available to RIBA members online, the CPD explains how rooflight can help to achieve the required light levels for specific building usage and the role that rooflights can play in reducing energy usage and CO₂ emissions. It also outlines the benefits of daylight to occupants’ health and wellbeing and includes a guide to rooflight types and glazing materials.

Ian Weakford, NARM’s Marketing Committee Chairman, commented that the CPD is in-keeping with NARM’s aim to promote best practice among designers, specifiers and installers of rooflights.

He elaborated: “This seminar has been created to give a clear understanding of the technical issues affecting rooflight design and specification. It has been pitched to work closely alongside more specific CPD materials offered by our member companies.”

‘An introduction to daylighting with rooflights’ has been prepared by NARM’s technical committee, who have previously worked closely with the Department for Communities and Local Government on amendments to Part A, Part B and Part L of the Building Regulations.

NARM has also provided data to assist with the development of SBEM, to ensure that it correctly reflects the positive contribution of rooflights in achieving Part L compliance.
