A new, Liverpool-based open-plan school has benefited from the installation of the insulating Kingspan Kooltherm K15 Rainscreen Board
Notre Dame Catholic College has been designed by Sheppard Robson. It utilises a model specially designed by Liverpool City Council, which combines modular internal spaces with a standardised clear-span outer shell.
Modular spaces can be adapted and developed to meet specific needs and requirements. For the new school, they have been arranged to include multi-storey education and study spaces – such as demountable classrooms and an amphitheatre – in addition to large break-out areas.
Meanwhile, a metal façade has been used to clad the school’s outer sell. To enhance building fabric performance, over 3,000 square metres of Kingspan Kooltherm K15 Rainscreen Board was specified for installation.
Designed to feature a fibre-free core, the board boasts LABC Registered Detail, a Class 0 fire rating and an ‘Excellent’ rating under BES 6001, the industry’s responsible sourcing standard.
The system was installed by resident SFS specialists, Cull & Griffiths, as part of Willmott Dixon Construction’s bid to strengthen the local economy. It was praised for its lightweight composition; the company was able to cut the boards to size on site, simplifying the installation process.
With the ability to achieve thermal conductivities of 0.020 W/m.K, the Kingspan Kooltherm K15 Rainscreen Board ensures that Liverpool’s new Notre Dame Catholic College complements the city’s Great Homer Street regeneration scheme.
The programme at Digital Construction Week is carefully designed to help you keep up with the fast pace of innovation in the built environment.
