Wraptite-SA conquers airtightness at 1066 Zero carbon homes

Wraptite-SA creates energy-efficient building fabric at Zero Carbon Home site

  • 2 Aug 2016

A terrace of 5 Zero Carbon Homes has been created close to the historic Hastings Castle by eco-architects ZED factory and the Zero Bills Home Company. The derelict site has been transformed into a modern, energy efficient development with help from the Wraptite-SA airtight membrane by the A. Proctor Group.

Wraptite-SA conquers airtightness at 1066 Zero carbon homesWraptite-SA membrane is a self-adhering vapour permeable air barrier, applied on site to the development’s pre-fabricated heavy weight timber frame panels to prevent lateral air movement and achieve a highly efficient building fabric.

The membrane was partly specified to meet the requirement of being durable enough to withstand the nearby marine environment. Wraptite-SA’s high vapour permeability allows damp sheathing to dry quickly and moisture vapour to escape, therefore reducing the likelihood of mould, mildew, condensation, timber distortion and metal corrosion.

Wraptite-SA was applied externally to the timber panels in continuous pieces in a quick and easy fashion. Wraptite-SA differs from internal air barriers as there is no need to accommodate building services such as electrical, lighting, heating and drainage systems.

It is the only self-adhering vapour permeable air barrier to be certified by the BBA in both wall and pitched roof applications, and continues to be a popular choice in the drive towards Zero Carbon homes.
