JB Shingles for All Saints Church

Historic church spire revitalised with JB Shingles

  • 3 Aug 2016

John Brash’s JB Shingles have been specified for use in a Grade II Listed church refurbishment project in Burton-in-Lonsdale.

Located in Burton-in-Lonsdale, All Saints Church is an old Anglican church, which was constructed with slate and sandstone in Gothic Revival style. Since its completion in 1876, the Grade II Listed building has served the small North Yorkshire community.

Having suffered from weather erosion, the church’s broach spire was in need of repair; particular attention needed to paid to the existing shingle cladding, which was approximately 60 years old.

Funding from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport ensured that a refurbishment project could go ahead.

JB Shingles

John Coward Architects chose JB Shingles for the restoration of the church’s spire. Selected in a rustic style, the shingles were specified to provide a long-life solution that would complement Burton-in-Lonsdale’s rural environment.

Manufactured from Canadian western red cedar, the shingles offer a high gradation of thermal insulation, as well as a low carbon footprint. They are treated and protected with a clear preservative; consistent weathering ensures that they blend into their environment.

JB Shingles are accredited through the Cedar Shake and Shingle Bureau (CSSB).

The All Saints Church installation was carried out by contractor Lambert Walker. Over 150 bundles of the shingles were fixed with John Brash’s JB ShingleFix.
