Cembonit cladding boards create natural façade for Liverpool development

  • 23 Aug 2016

A ten storey mixed-use development in the heart of Liverpool has benefitted from the installation of Cembrit’s through-coloured Cembonit cladding boards to create an attractive, natural looking façade.

Built on the former site of a landmark cinema, the 3,500 square-metre development will comprise student accommodation for the University of Liverpool, John Moores University and Liverpool Hope University, in addition to a spa, gym and commercial space.

The accommodation is made up of 440 units and is located within walking distance of all three university campuses.

Due to the building’s central location near the Empire Theatre and Lime Street station, the appearance of the external envelope was of utmost importance to developer PHD1 Construction. This led to the installation of of Cembrit’s Cembonit cladding in Flint, specified by Bak Cladding Solutions through Vivalda in Manchester.

Available in 11 pastel colours, the impact resistant boards feature a matt finish and faint directional grain. The sheets are ideal for a range of applications, including: rainscreen cladding, weatherboarding, window elements, fascia, balconies and prefabricated façade elements.

At the Liverpool development, the fibre cement cladding was easily installed despite being fitted at a 70 degree angle to provide a unique appearance.

Cembonit undergoes a unique impregnation treatment during the production process to protect against water staining and dirt, ensuring the façade retains its appearance in all weather conditions.

This combination of colour stability, with a class 0 fibre rating to BS 476 part 6 and a class 1 rating to BS 476 part 7, makes Cembonit ideal for overcladding rainscreen applications.
