IKO PLC’s UPXL roof system has been specified to provide 30 years of protection for Erksine Court, a new build care home in Southampton.
The sheltered housing scheme, which opened this summer, has been designed to accommodate couples and individuals over the age of 55. It stands on the site of the original care home, which was demolished as part of the development.
Southampton County Council sought a roofing specification from IKO at the project’s planning stage. An energy efficient system, with the ability to stand firm over the coming years, was required.
Considering this, the company specified its BBA-certified UPXL system for installation.
Salnor Roofing was contracted to fit the system over a five-month period. Starting at one end of the new building, and finishing at the other, the company worked closely with other trades to ensure that the project was completed in a timely fashion.
The company installed a 200mm IKO enertherm insulation board to enhance the system’s energy efficient credentials; with this addition, it was able to achieve a U-value of 0.11W/m2. UPXL includes graphite technology, which has been tested to UK fire performance standards.
The Guardian torch-on system was used to apply the UPXL system. IKO’s Technical Services team provided support to Salnor throughout the build process; the company also offers a 30 year single point warranty for the system, which covers workmanship, materials and design.
