The Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) has improved its GLASS Charter Merit Scheme, which aims to promote Health and Safety within the industry.
Designed to improve the performance of Health and Safety within the glazing industry, the GLASS Charter is open to all GGF Members, regardless of size or status.
It was initially launched in 2001, following the announcement of the Government’s Revitalising Health and Safety Initiative. Developed in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the scheme was dubbed GLASS – ‘Goal: Less Accidents, Safer Sites’.
The scheme aspires to improve safety standards within the glazing industry. By sharing incident data, it hopes to recognise important areas of concern to prompt change and reduce the additional hidden costs to businesses, which may be incurred by accidents and incidents.
The three-tier system been constructed to support GGF Members as they strive to improve their Health and Safety profile. Progression through the scheme – from Bronze level, through to Silver and Gold – is encouraged by the GGF via a selection of accessible resources.
The scheme places an emphasis on systems which are fitting to the size and nature of the business in question, whilst applying a set of common standards.
Many GGF Member companies have implemented new, effective measures to improve their Health and Safety credentials. The scheme has been altered to recognise these businesses and encourage continuous improvement.
