IKO Polymeric’s Spectraplan single ply membrane has been chosen for the re-roofing of Coddington Court Buddhist Centre in Hereford.

The unique project, carried out by Somerset-based contractor Singe Ply Services, required an environmentally friendly roof refurbishment which would be sympathetic to the character of the building and its surround 16th century Coach House.

Free from halogens, plasticisers, HCFCs and heavy metals, Spectraplan’s environmental credentials made it ideal for the project at hand. The single ply membrane is British manufactured in accordance with the BES 6001 (responsible sourcing of products) and ISO 14001 (environmental management) standards, and is produced through a hot air welding process that does not require solvents or generate smoke.

The existing barrel-shaped polycarbonate roof was replaced with a Spectraplan single ply roof, made possible by using standing seams on the external roof, whilst installing a curved PPC fascia internally to mask the ends of the metal deck.

To ensure that nothing showed through into the building, white caps were also cut and placed on the ends of each fixing. Finally, a slotted board was installed at 90 degrees to the roof slope to prevent the joints of the insulation boards from showing through.
