Exova BM TRADA will be hosting a ‘Timber Frame for Engineers’ course, covering the fundamentals of timber frame construction, in November.
The course will be held on Wednesday 2nd November at Exova BM TRADA’s High Wycombe base. The company runs a number of courses throughout the year; these can be delivered at clients’ premises, as well as in-house.
In addition to timber and fire training, the company offers courses on management systems and general business training. Places can be booked via Exova BM TRADA’s website
Exova BM TRADA’s ‘Timber Frame for Engineers’ course has been designed for the benefit of timber frame designers, architects and engineers.
In recent years, the popularity of timber frame has grown in the construction industry; this is attributable to its sustainability credentials and speed of build. Because of this, it is crucial that engineers and architects are equipped with knowledge of timber frame design and manufacture.
‘Timber Frame for Engineers’ is a one-day course, incorporating a comprehensive introduction to timber frame construction.
Dr. Keerthi Ranasinghe – Principal Structural Engineer and Eurocodes Consultant for Exova BM TRADA – will educate delegates on the manufacture of elements and best practices for connecting them; methods of construction, such as volumetric, open panel and closed panel; differential movement; and processes for identifying different system components.
The session will also deal with the principles of timber engineering and provide guidance on the relevant British and European standards. Delegates will also be encouraged to identify the key characteristics of timber and related materials.
Dr. Ranasinghe will provide examples of engineering input and design to support the concepts discussed.
