Increasing accessibility with Clos-o-Mat

  • 22 Feb 2017

Adding space to a Regulatory unisex wheelchair-accessible toilet does more than just open up the room. It also opens the venue up to potentially up to 15million disabled people who need a bench and/or hoist, (Space to Change).

Clos-o-Mat away from home accessible toilet project manager, Kelvin Grimes explains that just 160cm x 200cm added onto the 220cm x 200cm required for a unisex wheelchair-accessible toilet enables the addition of a changing bench and hoist makes venues accessible to those who need extra space.

Marketing manager at Clos-o-Mat, Robin Tuffley added that when space is limited, a unisex wheelchair-accessible toilet is the one WC facility that should be provided. Almost 20% of the UK population is disabled and they spent £80billion a year, therefore adding 310cm2 to a toilet and providing extra equipment is a oat effective use of floorspace that opens the door to almost everybody, he explained.

Therefore, Clos-oMat has developed an adult-sized changing bench and hoist, a Space to Change toilet, as a compromise where there isn’t the space for a full, additional Changing Places toilet facility.

A Space to Change builds on the conventional, Regulatory unisex wheelchair-accessible toilet, at 7.5m2, further accommodating an adult sized changing bench and hoist.

Clos-oMat can provide design advice, supply, install, commission, and then service & maintain the facility as well as providing full project management and training staff in the equipment so that they can help customers.
